Intro | Forests | Freshwater | Things To Do | Reports
Canada is covered by hundreds of thousands of square kilometres of sparkling rivers and lakes and millions of hectares of forests. Freshwater is the lifeblood of our planet, vital to humans and to millions of other species. Forests are equally essential, generating the oxygen we breathe and helping to filter water that makes its way back into rivers and lakes.
For several generations, our lifestyle has been putting too much pressure on these resources. Little by little, we've been destroying the environmental services we depend on by using too much and by managing trees as commodities rather than managing forests as ecosystems.
As climate change plays havoc with the earth's ecological balance, robust, healthy forests, lakes and rivers will be more important than ever. The way we look after Canada's rich endowment of forests and freshwater has to change - for our benefit, and for the world. And we all have a role to play.
WWF-Canada is creating solutions that work
WWF-Canada is partnering with communities, First Nations, industry and government to tackle these complex, large-scale problems here and abroad. We're creating solutions that address not just ecological needs, but economic and social needs as well, because experience proves that's the way to guarantee lasting results.
